The great Hindu epic Ramayana, tells of the conquest of Sri Lanka in 3000 BC by the Hindu god "Rama" who fought with the demon king "Ravana" in Sri Lanka to rescue his wife "Sitha". Today Sri Lanka offers the opportunity to visit the many sites believed to have been part of the great Ramayana which include amongst others, Ravana's fort, the Sitha Amman temple where Sitha was held and the Ritigala medicinal forest amongst others.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 : Airport - Negambo

  • Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, please clear immigration & visa formalities, collect your baggage and proceed to the arrival lounge through the green channel if you do not have goods to be declared to customs. 
  • Explore Vacations Representative will page you by your name. 
  • Thereafter you will be assisted to the Coach Park to begin your journey as per the itinerary and transfer to Negombo.
  • Sightseeing in Negombo city including a visit to a fish market and the Dutch canal.
  • Spend the day at leisure relaxing at the hotel. 
  • Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2 : Negambo - Chilaw - Kandy

  • Breakfast at the hotel. 
  • Proceed to Chilaw to the Muneeshwaram Temple.
  • Afterwards, proceed to Kandy.
  • Arrive in Kandy and witness the cultural dance show including firewalking.
  • Participate for the pooja ceremony at the Temple of the Tooth Relic. 
  • Check in to a hotel for overnight stay.

Yahangala Rock

Day 3 : Kandy

  • Breakfast at the hotel. 
  • Proceed to visit the major Ramayana Trail cities. ([Dunuwila - Where lord Rama killed king Ravana... Located in Laggala, Dunuvila Lake believed to be the place where Lord Rama killed king Ravana by single combat. As the folklore goes lord Rama had fired the Brahmaastharam at King Ravana from the lake you can still see in Dunuvila.], [Laggala - Where king Ravana meditated… Located in Matale Laggala is a rural village with natural beauty and historical value. The place believed to be the location where Lord Rama’s army was firstly sighted by king Ravana’s troops. King Ravana had meditated and prayed to Lord Shiva at Thiru Koneshwaran from the Laggala rock, as the rock was the highest peak of his Kingdom.], [Sita Kotuwa - Sita was kept at Queen Mandodari‘s Palace and later moved first to Sita Kotuwa (translated “Sita’s Fort”) and finally to Ashoka Vatika. The ruins found here are the remnants of later civilizations.], [Yahangala - Where king Ravana’s body was kept after his death… Translated into English as ‘Bedrock’, Yahangala is believed to be the place where locals paid their respect to king Ravana for the last time and kept the body. The place located along the Mahiyanganaya – Wasgamuwa road is ideal for a hike and offers you amazing views of the surrounding. You can see the Yahangala rock miles away.])
  • Return to the hotel in Kandy for overnight stay.

Day 4 : Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

  • Breakfast at the hotel. 
  • Proceed to Nuwara Eliya. 
  • On the way there, visit the Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple, Ramboda. On these hills of Ramboda, where Hanuman was searching for Sitadevi, the Chinmaya mission of Sri Lanka built a temple with Hanuman as the presiding deity. On every full moon day, special poojas are conducted and witnessed by thousands of devotees.
  • Afterwards, continue the tour to Nuwara Eliya. 
  • En-route, visit the Seetha Amman Temple in Seetha Eliya.  The stream that runs from the hill, catered to the needs of Sitadevi during her stay at Ashoka Vatika. She is said to have bathed in this stream. Now there is a temple erected for Lord Rama, Sitadevi, Lakshmana and Hanuman by the side of this stream. It is interesting to note that footprints akin to Lord Hamunams are found by this river – some small and some large.
  • Arrive in Nuwara Eliya and check in to a hotel. 
  • In the evening, visit the highlights of the Old English Town including the fruit and vegetable markets.
  • Return to the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 5 : Nuwara Eliya - Colombo

  • Breakfast at the hotel. 
  • Afterwards, proceed to Colombo and visit the Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple, which is a temple dedicated to Anjaneyar in Sri Lanka. This is the only temple in the world to have a chariot of Anjaneyar. 
  • You can spend the rest of the day enjoying some sightseeing in Colombo along with some shopping before transferring to the hotel.
  • Check in to a hotel for overnight stay.

Day 6 : Colombo - Airport

  •  Breakfast at the hotel. 
  • Thereafter transfer directly to the airport.  
  • Arrive at the airport for the departure flight.
